Today as I sat at my desk to work, I decided to listen some worship songs. I kept hearing Elevation Worship’s “I trust in God”. About half way through the song as they sang “I trust in God my saviour” I heard “You trust God but can God trust you?” Immediately I remembered some notes I made back in 2022 with the title “Can God trust you?”
During this period of my life (2022) I found myself in sin. I wanted to give up because I felt like I disappointed God. The one thing I feared was to give my life to God then still mess up. Here are my notes from January 2022:
When you go through trials and tribulations can God trust you to still put him first?
There is the voice of the enemy that says it’s not worth it and because God hates sin he doesn’t love you. Then there is the voice of God that says “I need to be able to trust you. You need to be tested and tried.”
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you 1 Peter 5:10
Don’t let shame an guilt turn you away from God. Samuel told the Israelites that even though they have done wickedness they should not turn from following the Lord. However, he also made it clear to the people that if they continued to do wicked they will be destroyed.
And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart; 1 Samuel 12:20
But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king. 1 Samuel 12:25
Don’t get it twisted. God hates sin but in times of trials can he trust you to believe him and not the enemy? The enemy is still active because it’s still apart of God’s plan. We must choose who we will worship. In the book of Genesis we see Jacob fought for his blessing. He was no longer “Jacob”. He was no longer known as supplanter or whatever people knew him as. He was given a new name. In the same way God will no longer know us by who we were or who people knew. He gives us a new name.
‘And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him , and said, Tell me , I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. ‘Genesis 32:24-30
As I reflect on these notes, I don’t find myself falling like I was back in 2022. However, I found myself doubting and weary but I am reminded to keep going. Do not give up the fight. The enemy will want to distract you by trying to trap you in past mistakes. Memories of who you were, but God promises redemption. If I examine myself will I be found firm in faith? Can God trust me to trust his word, stand firm in faith and not retreat?
Though God does not tempt us, he will allow us to be tempted. He will allow the testing of our faith. As we go on to preach to nations, a level of trust must be established between us and God. God says we are redeemed. We are a chosen generation… we must believe him and he must know we believe.
May the thought of this cause you to jump for joy, even though lately you’ve had to put up with the grief of many trials. But these only reveal the sterling core of your faith, which is far more valuable than gold that perishes, for even gold is refined by fire. Your authentic faith will result in even more praise, glory, and honor when Jesus the Anointed One is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6 kjv
I don’t find it to be coincidence that the verse of the today is 1 Corinthians 16:13. ‘Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.’
Be alert and on your guard; stand firm in your faith (your conviction respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, keeping the trust and holy fervor born of faith and a part of it). Act like men and be courageous; grow in strength! [Ps. 31:24.] 1 Corinthians 16:13 TPT
This is no time to retreat. Whatever state you find yourself in, fix your eyes on Jesus Christ and Keep going.
I love this solid reminder. Even when we go through a season of mess-ups or set backs it’s not over, God can still use us. We must never second- guess his power to redeem our past and paved the way for a victorious come- back.
I can relate to various aspects of this blog during my life stages and even recently.
Nevertheless we cant sit and somber but strengthen what remains and hold fast to this truth that we can trust God and have assurance that God can trust us.
